Füssen in the Bavarian Alps

In winter the region round Füssen is a great attraction not only as a winter wonderland, but also on account of the programmes of Füssen's National ice hockes training centre and the charming slopes for alpine skiing on the mountains of Tegelberg and Breitenberg, which are members of the Allgäu-Tyrol Ski-Lift Association "Vitales Land". That the surroundings of Füssen, however, is also a man-made landscape formed over centuries is not something that only becomes clear during the first visit to the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, which attract visitors from all over the world to one of the most beautiful holiday regions in the Bavarian Alps. In the heart of the destination lies the over 700-year-old town of Füssen, at the southern end of the famous Romantic Road.
The outlying rural districts are situated around the core town of Füssen: Bad Faulenbach in the car-free Faulenbach Valley; Hopfen am See, praised as the "Allgäu Riviera" for the southern elegance of its townscape and the fantastic panorama view of the Alpine peaks; Weissensee, the most rural district with many opportunities for holidays on the farm.
